Disgraced Andrew Spotted on Rare Public Outing at Horse Trials with Edward and Sophie
Andrew Spotted on Rare Outing with Edward and Sophie

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the disgraced former Duke of York, made a rare public appearance on Sunday, joining his brother Prince Edward and sister-in-law Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials. The event took place on the King’s Norfolk estate, close to Marsh Farm, where Andrew now lives in exile after being stripped of his royal titles.

Andrew’s Rare Public Outing

Andrew, who rarely leaves the confines of his new home, was seen driving his Land Rover Defender away from the event. He had attended to watch Sophie compete in the SanDrivingHam Challenge, which tests the skill of the driver, groom, and passengers. An onlooker told the Sun: “Andrew sneaked in and sneaked out and definitely didn’t want to be seen. But I saw Andrew leave the field at 10.30am, just after Sophie had ridden her round, then I saw Edward walking towards his car, smiling shortly afterwards.”

The former prince’s previous mystery bruise on his face has cleared up, and he is believed to have watched the action from a secluded area away from the main arena. His outing comes amid claims that he is feeling more isolated than ever, following his removal from royal duties and the ongoing controversy over his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew denies any wrongdoing.

Royal Family Dynamics

In April, Edward and Sophie became the first royals to visit Andrew at Marsh Farm after he was forced to leave his 30-room Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor. The visit was described as a “brotherly welfare check.” Edward was also the first member of the Royal Family to publicly speak out on the Epstein scandal, saying at a conference in Dubai in February: “It’s really important always to remember the victims.” When asked how he was coping with the release of new files, Edward added: “With the best will in the world, I'm not sure this is the audience that is probably the least bit interested in that. They all came here to listen to education, solving the future, but no, I think it's all really important always to remember the victims and who are the victims in all this? A lot of victims in this.”

Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. He was stripped of all his royal titles last October, including his membership in the Order of the Garter, after the growing controversy over his associations with Epstein.

Isolation and Loss of Titles

Earlier this month, the Royal Family gathered for the annual Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle, featuring King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William in procession. Andrew, who had previously been a member of the order and had attended the pre-ceremony lunch and investiture even after quitting public life, did not appear this year. A source told the Daily Express: “He’s become used to watching his family celebrate Trooping without him, but Garter Day will be a really tough day for him. It’s one of those days that reminds him of all that he’s lost. He’s feeling more isolated than ever; he’s completely alone.”

The day before, it emerged that Andrew had been able to sub-let three cottages in the grounds of Royal Lodge, despite paying only a peppercorn rent for his former home. The lease allowed him to rent out three of the eight buildings on the estate in private deals, pocketing the income. However, the arrangement, described by one expert as outrageous, remains shrouded in mystery, with no clarification on how much money he made or how long the cottages were sub-let.
