Alex Lloyd, the singer behind the 2001 hit 'Amazing', has undergone a dramatic transformation that has shocked fans. The Australian Story episode detailing his struggles with addiction, weight gain, and childhood trauma aired this week, revealing a side of the musician many had not seen.
Lloyd, who sold over 1 million albums, faced a series of hardships after his rise to fame. In 2009, he was accused of stealing the lyrics to 'Amazing', a claim that was withdrawn but left him £300,000 out of pocket and forced him to revisit his childhood trauma. His marriage ended, and he turned to binge drinking and comfort eating, reaching 168kg.
He developed nerve pain and was prescribed oxycodone, which he described as 'too awesome'. He became addicted and later switched to buprenorphine, an opioid replacement. 'I still have to take a little bit just to feel mentally OK,' he said. 'And that's pretty sad.'
Despite his struggles, Lloyd's voice remains strong. He is releasing his first studio album in 12 years later this year. The episode also highlighted his volunteer work with children who have survived trauma, inspired by his own experiences. 'I don't pretend to be someone who understands how to deal with childhood trauma; I'm just someone who's been through it,' he said.
