Alex de Minaur Admits Private Life Regret After Wimbledon Win

Alex de Minaur has admitted he regrets allowing a documentary crew to follow him, saying he values his private life more after the experience. The Australian tennis star, known for his relationship with British player Katie Boulter, was the subject of the documentary The Demon Down Under, released in January 2026. The film followed him as he prepared for the Australian Open, with Boulter also featuring.

De Minaur Opens Up About Documentary Regret

After his first-round Wimbledon win over Roman Andres Burruchaga (7-6, 6-1, 6-0), De Minaur said: “Not too sure about it. I want to really like my private life and I realise that having a camera with me at all times kind of limits that a little bit. It was a learning process, but I’m glad I was able to give the fans a little bit of a behind-the-scenes look.” The win sets up a second-round meeting with Adrian Mannarino.

Reflecting on the decision to open up his life, the Sydney star added: “You see what we do whenever we step out on court but there’s a whole lot of us off the court. We’ve got passions, lives outside of tennis, and I just wanted to do my bit to try to showcase that. I’m a regular human being.”

Boulter's Early Exit at Wimbledon

Boulter, 29, lost her own opener on the same court just hours earlier, falling to Italian teenager Tyra Caterina Grant in straight sets. Despite the defeat, Boulter insisted this month would be the best of her life regardless of her on-court results, thanks to her impending marriage to De Minaur. However, she became emotional when the topic was raised in her post-match interview.

“I think this is the most challenging part about tennis. It's so difficult to feel satisfied. I think it's something you keep trying to strive for, but yeah…” she said before tearing up. “Yeah, it's tough. It's tough. I can assure you it's going to be the best day of my life in a while. Not today, yeah.”

De Minaur Supports His Fiancee

De Minaur wrapped up his straight-sets win around the same time Boulter was speaking to the media. He was asked about her defeat in his own press conference and showed his support. “Yeah, today was a tough one for Katie. She does so incredibly well to put these tough moments behind her, or at least she makes that effort,” he said.

“Now for me was trying to kind of stay in my lane in a way and focus on what I needed to do. It's not easy by any means because ultimately you want the whole kind of household to keep on winning all day every day. No, she is great. I'll see her once I'm done back home. I'll do what I can to be there for her. Yeah, she's great. She'll be disappointed, but I know she'll get through it.”

De Minaur and Boulter are due to get married after the Championships. The couple, often referred to as a tennis power couple, have been engaged and are planning their wedding for later this year.
