Alan Carr's Candid Divorce Confession: 'I've Been Walked Over & Don't Trust Anyone'
Alan Carr's raw divorce confession on trust and self-worth

Comedian and Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr has delivered a raw and emotional confession about the lasting impact of his divorce, revealing he has been 'walked over' in the past and now struggles to trust anyone.

A Heartfelt Chat Over Cocktails

The 49-year-old star made the candid remarks during a sun-drenched break in filming for the BBC show Amanda & Alan's Greek Job. Sitting with his co-host and friend, the media personality Amanda Holden, 54, the pair sipped Aperol Spritz cocktails and reflected on how quickly life moves and their shared experience of divorce.

Holden initiated the deep conversation by admitting she had made 'bad decisions' in the past, noting they had both been through a lot, including the breakdown of their marriages. Carr, who was married to comedian Paul Drayton for four years after a 14-year relationship, did not name his ex-husband directly but spoke openly about the personal fallout.

'Knowing Your Worth' After Being Demeaned

Reflecting on his past relationships, Carr shifted the focus from decisions to self-worth. 'I mean, it’s not decisions for me, but knowing your worth and the amount of times I’ve been walked over and people have demeaned me,' he told Holden.

He expressed regret over not being more assertive in the past. 'You know, like, there’s times that I wish I’d said, "no", I wish I’d been a bit bolder and a bit… No. Stronger. Yeah, a bit stronger,' he confessed.

The Lingering Struggle With Trust

The comedian went on to identify trust as his most significant hurdle when considering new relationships. Confiding in his pal, he revealed a deep-seated caution. 'I don’t really trust anyone, really. That’s the trouble. I think that is my main thing. But, yeah, it’s just getting out there and trusting, isn’t it?' he said.

Carr's marriage to Drayton, which began in a lavish 2018 ceremony officiated by singer Adele at her Los Angeles mansion, ended during the lockdown period. The couple announced their separation in January 2022 with a joint statement, confirming their divorce was amicable. Their relationship had spanned 13 years before they tied the knot.

Following the split, Paul Drayton posted on Instagram that he had proactively checked himself into rehab for alcoholism at the start of that year. This came after a 'challenging couple of years' which included a guilty plea to a drink-driving charge in Brighton. On that occasion, he was found to be four times over the legal limit after reversing into a police car, narrowly missing a mother with a pram, near the West Sussex home he shared with Carr.

The heartfelt exchange on Greek Job offers a rare glimpse into the personal challenges Carr has faced since his high-profile split, highlighting the complex emotional journey that often follows the end of a long-term relationship.
