Strictly Come Dancing fans have fiercely defended the BBC show after calls for it to be axed following a series of scandals. The programme, which has been on air for 21 years, faces controversy including a police investigation into alleged cocaine use by cast members and criticism of its 2025 line-up.
According to reports, the BBC contacted the Metropolitan Police after launching an inquiry into claims that two stars used cocaine. A source told the Mirror: “It’s a significant new development in the BBC’s recent string of crises that they have now got the police involved in investigating allegations surrounding Strictly.”
Despite the backlash, many fans took to social media to express their support after Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine Show debated whether the programme should end. On X, one fan wrote: “No! I love Strictly and look forward to it. Only good thing about Autumn.” Another said: “Don’t be ridiculous it’s a great show !!”
On Reddit, fans also defended the 2025 line-up, which includes Love Island’s Dani Dyer, TikTok star George Clarke and ITV’s Ross King. One fan commented: “Everyone complaining about this line up, but I’m absolutely buzzing about George Clarke.” Another added: “I’d literally never heard of Joe Sugg when he was on and he ended up being one of my favourite that year.”
The show’s start date has been confirmed for the coming weeks, with Strictly set to return to screens soon.
