The mother of Olympic champion Adam Peaty has shared her poignant plan to avoid a day of tears as her son marries television chef Gordon Ramsay's daughter, Holly. Caroline Peaty, 60, confirmed she and her husband Mark will not be attending the high-profile wedding at Bath Abbey on 27 December 2025.
A Heartfelt Distraction Plan
Speaking to the Mail, Caroline revealed that instead of attempting to watch the ceremony from a distance, which she felt might risk spoiling the day, the family has decided on a different course of action. Her husband Mark has explicitly said he does not want her "crying all day." Their plan is to take Caroline's mother, Mavis Williams, for a drive through the Staffordshire countryside near their home. "We’re surrounded by beautiful countryside here, so if the weather is OK we’ll go out and just try and distract ourselves a bit," Caroline explained.
A Family Absent from the Glamour
The wedding is set to be a star-studded affair, with guests including David and Victoria Beckham. However, Adam's parents and wider family will not be present. The sole representative from his side is expected to be his sister, Bethany, 32, who is serving as one of Holly's bridesmaids. In contrast, Holly's immediate family, including her father Gordon, mother Tana, and siblings Tilly, Megan, and Jack, will all be in attendance.
The event highlights the starkly different backgrounds of the two families. Holly Ramsay has grown up amidst considerable wealth, with the family owning multi-million-pound properties in London, Bel Air, and Cornwall. Adam Peaty's upbringing was marked by financial sacrifice. His mother, a nursery manager, and father, a Lidl caretaker, gave up holidays and endured gruelling schedules to support his swimming career, with neighbours even helping with petrol costs for competitions.
Rumours of a Rift and a Mother's Sacrifice
Speculation about a family strain emerged earlier this year when Caroline was not invited to Holly's hen do, with suggestions she might have "stuck out a bit" among the glamorous guests. This stands in sharp contrast to the immense support she provided during Adam's rise to fame. He previously recounted how his mother would wake at 4am to drive him to training in Derby, wait for hours, work a full day, and then repeat the journey in the evening.
Meanwhile, Adam's grandmother, Mavis, who gained brief online fame as #OlympicNan, will be spending the wedding day with Caroline and Mark. She has previously expressed her joy at Adam's success, stating: "I’ve loved every minute of it." As the ceremony proceeds in Bath, Adam Peaty's closest family will be seeking solace in the Staffordshire landscape, a world away from the glitz of the abbey.
