71-year-old becomes Miss Great Britain's oldest finalist

Ann Marie Harper, a 71-year-old grandmother from Ayrshire, has become Miss Great Britain's oldest-ever finalist. She competed in the national finals in Leicester on October 16, aiming to bring the crown back to Scotland, and became Scotland's oldest-ever beauty pageant contender.

Impact Over Image Award Win

Although she did not take home the top prize, her energy helped her win the Impact Over Image Award in the Ms Great Britain Classic category, where she was more than 25 years older than her rivals. Ann Marie, also known as Glamour Gran Ann, became the first Scot to win this regional title at the national finals.

She was praised for championing age positivity, confidence, and greater visibility for older women. Speaking about her win, Ann Marie said: "This award means so much to me because it represents everything I’ve been trying to achieve."

Raising Awareness for Causes

Her participation in beauty pageants is aimed at raising awareness for causes close to her heart, including the charity CLASP, which supports older people and tackles loneliness and social isolation in her local area.

Ann Marie noted: "Of course, I would have absolutely loved to bring the Ms Great Britain Classic crown home to Ayrshire. I went into this competition to give it everything and that’s exactly what I did."

Looking Ahead

She added: "But to be standing on that stage at 71 and hear my name announced as the winner of the Impact Over Image Award was a moment I’ll never forget." Ann Marie also congratulated Ally Sussex on becoming Ms Great Britain Classic and all the women who took part.

Looking to the future, Ann Marie assured her supporters that she is 'not winding down' and believes she is 'only getting started'. She said: "And if there’s one thing I hope people take from my story, it’s this: your age does not define your possibilities."
