Rapper Drake has placed a $1.5 million (£1.1 million) bet on Argentina to beat Spain in the 2026 Fifa World Cup final. The God’s Plan rapper, born Aubrey Drake Graham, shared a screenshot of the online bet he placed on Stake ahead of the final at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
Bet Details and Potential Payout
The 39-year-old put his money behind the South American team which, if they win, will see a payout of more than $5.1 million (£3.79 million). Sharing a screenshot of his bet on Instagram, he said: “What’s that saying??? Better luck next time…”
Previous Losses and the 'Drake Curse'
It comes after the Canadian artist previously lost a one million-dollar bet he placed on Irish Conor McGregor winning his UFC bout against Max Holloway. The rapper has gained a reputation over the years dubbed “the Drake curse” where sport teams or athletes photographed with or bet on by the artist are doomed to lose. A website, named TheDrakeCurse.com, has even been created to log his full sport betting history.
Recent Music Releases
It comes months after the Canadian released his three new albums – Iceman, Maid Of Honour and Habibti – all at once in May. The trio of records marked his first releases since 2023, and secured Drake his seventh number one album on the UK album chart with Iceman.
Drake's Career and Feuds
The five-time Grammy winner is also known for the songs One Dance, Passionfruit and Hold On, We’re Going Home. He was previously at the centre of a headline-making feud with US rapper Kendrick Lamar, where the American musician insulted Drake in the diss track Not Like Us.
