Coleen Nolan poked fun at her son Shane Nolan's marriage breakdown during an episode of the family's podcast, Nolans Uncensored. The Loose Women star made a cheeky comment after Shane joked about enjoying weddings but not having them, referencing his own marriage that ended just a year after the wedding.
Shane's Wedding Cake Melted
Shane, along with his mother Coleen and sister Ciara Fensome, recalled how his wedding day started poorly when the cake began to collapse. "My wedding cake melted," he said, with Coleen remembering the costly cake becoming "tiny" as a result. When Shane added, "I do love a wedding though," Coleen quipped: "A bit like your marriage, just melting from the start."
Seeming taken aback, Shane responded: "That is true, my fault, I hold my hands up." He went on to describe his stag do in Ibiza as "shocking" because he and his friends "didn't eat" due to partying hard.
Shane's Regrets and Future Plans
Shane, who wed former Miss Great Britain Maddie Wahdan in 2022 at Rushton Hall in Kettering, said he would do things differently if he married his current partner, Kim. "She'd get married tomorrow if she could, can't blame her," he joked. He expressed a desire for a more active stag do, such as paintballing or golf, and renting a house instead of partying abroad.
Ciara humorously described both Shane's and Coleen's marriages as "disastrous." Coleen has been married twice – first to Shane Richie, with whom she has sons Shane and Jake Roche, and later to Ray Fensome, Ciara's father.
Coleen's Past Reflections
Coleen has previously admitted to staying in her first marriage longer than she should have, due to Shane Richie's infidelity. Richie later confessed in his autobiography, Rags to Riches: "I was lying so much that I couldn't remember which story I'd told to each of them. And I'd lie to cover up the lies."
Coleen also acknowledged being unfaithful in the past, attributing it to "emotional neglect." Reflecting on their divorce in 2012, she told the Daily Star: "I'm in a much happier place now than when I was married to Shane – I don't have to worry about what he gets up to any more."
Coleen on Shane and Maddie's Split
Commenting on the collapse of Shane and Maddie's marriage, Coleen told OK! magazine: "It's always extremely sad when something doesn't work out – it's always sad for both parties. Obviously Shane's my son and I adore him. And I still adore Maddie. I can sit and talk to Maddie for hours, I've been there and done it."
