Young Sherlock season 2 is in production, and the Prime Video series has announced a cast shake-up as filming begins. The Guy Ritchie-directed show, which was a hit with Sherlock fans, started its second season in late May, with Palermo, Italy serving as one of the main locations. The first season reached 45 million viewers in its first month and ranks among the top 10 Prime Original seasons of all time.
Who Is Joining Young Sherlock Season 2?
Dune star Olivia Williams, Outlander's Sophie Skelton, The Other Bennet Sister's Indira Varma, and Game of Thrones star Aidan Gillen are all joining as series regulars. Their specific character details have not been revealed, but Skelton's role marks her first TV part since concluding her seven-year run on Outlander as Brianna Randall Fraser.
Returning cast members include Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, as well as Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Holly Cattle, who play Sherlock’s mother Cordelia, brother Mycroft, and sister Beatrice, respectively.
Who Is Leaving Young Sherlock?
Zine Tseng will not return as the female lead Xiao Wei/Princess Gulun Shou’an. At the end of the first season, she and Sherlock parted ways amicably after avenging her family, and she returned to China. Tseng had left the door slightly open in interviews, but now her exit is confirmed.
Also not returning is Joseph Fiennes as Sherlock’s father Silas Holmes, who jumped off a cliff in the finale and is presumed dead. Numan Acar, who played Silas' fixer Esad Kasgarli, will also not be back for the second season.
