Wonka chocolate has returned to shelves after 21 years, and the new range has gone viral. A taste test found one item—the Purpleypurple Milk Chocolate Bar—was "genuinely mind-blowingly good," while other products failed to impress.
New Wonka range brings nostalgia and surprise
The brand was last popular when the Tim Burton-directed film was released in 2005, when winning a golden ticket seemed like the best thing in the world. Now, 21 years later, the magic of Wonka is back, bringing together nostalgia, adventure and a signature sense of surprise.
The new range does not just play it safe with a chocolate bar—there are all sorts of wild creations. The question is what is worth picking up and what should be left on the shelf.
Wonka Magic Hats and Oompa Loompa Figurine
Wonka Magic Hats, priced at £7.65, combine chocolate shells with fillings in flavours including Caramellion, Chocolonka, Magenta Elixir and Choco Fizz. Sadly, there were more of these that were not enjoyed. The normal chocolate and dark chocolate praline versions were pleasing, but the Choco Fizz was a cola surprise that was not welcome.
The Wonka Oompa Loompa Milk Chocolate Hollow Figurine, priced at £4.50, is made from smooth, creamy milk chocolate with fine details, complete with vibrant green hair and striking white brows. It was described as "pretty nice," giving Easter egg vibes, and recommended for those who long for that all year round.
Purpleypurple bar and Magic Garden
The Wonka Purpleypurple Milk Chocolate Bar, priced at £3.75, features smooth milk chocolate with a surprising purple caramel-flavoured milky filling. It was "seriously tasty" and "genuinely mind-blowingly good," with a recommendation to get it again.
Wonka Magic Garden, priced at £2.30, contains chewy lime-flavoured ropes with a surprise taste of lemon inside. It was not a fan favourite—"lemon and lime don't do it for me in the slightest," and these were no exception.
Oompa Loompa Gummies and Kinder Joy Egg
Wonka Oompa Loompa Gummies, priced at £2.30, are blueberry and strawberry-flavour gummies shaped like the iconic Oompa Loompas, with a surprising raspberry-cola flavour liquid centre. When bitten into, a gooey liquid centre comes out—"very delicious, and moreish!"
The Wonka Kinder Joy Egg, priced at £1.60, combines smooth cocoa and milky cream layers with crispy wafer bites, plus exclusive Kinder Joy × Wonka Funko toys, including the Golden Wonka. It was the first Kinder Joy ever tried and was "floored by how delicious it was," though it was a little small for the price.
