Who is Sebastian Croft? Traitors star's career and life off-screen

Sebastian Croft made his debut on The Celebrity Traitors on Thursday night, joining Claudia Winkleman's hit BBC show alongside a host of famous faces. Hollywood actor Richard E. Grant and Love Island host Maya Jama were chosen as the Traitors, with Sebastian now a Faithful alongside EastEnders icon Ross Kemp, Coronation Street legend Julie Hesmondhalgh and comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett. Other contestants include Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, actor Michael Sheen, comedian Miranda Hart and singer James Blunt.

In the first episode, Sebastian acknowledged that he was perhaps "less well-known" than his fellow players, but reckoned that could be to his advantage.

Early Life and Stage Career

Sebastian Croft, also known as Bash Croft, is an actor who, at 24 years old, has already had quite the career. Born in Oxford, he was privately educated at the Dragon School, which also counts comedian Jack Whitehall and Harry Potter star Emma Watson among its alumni. He began taking acting lessons at seven and was just nine when he was cast in Oliver! in the West End. He followed this by starring as Gavroche in Les Misérables before theatrical producer Cameron Mackintosh handpicked him to lead the UK tour of Oliver! in 2011.

Television and Film Success

In his early teens, Sebastian moved into TV, appearing in Houdini and Doyle and Penny Dreadful. Aged 14, he was cast as a younger Eddard Stark in Game of Thrones, returning for the show's sixth season. In 2016, he starred alongside Carrie Fisher in Wonderwell, which became the Star Wars legend's final film role before her death, though it was not released until 2023. In 2019, he was nominated for a BAFTA for his performance in Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans.

In 2021, he was cast in adult animation Love, Death and Robots and voiced Peter van Daan in the animation Where Is Anne Frank? Further success came with the role of Ben Hope in the Netflix series Heartstopper, appearing in 13 episodes alongside Kit Connor, Joe Lock and Emmerdale star Bradley Riches. His most recent television appearance was as Silvio Salucci in historical drama Dope Girls.

Music and Personal Life

Sebastian is also a musician, having released the singles Tokyo and Better Than Ever. He has appeared in the music video for Baby It's Cold Outside alongside Michael Buble and Idina Menzel, and in 2026 teamed up with Maisie Peters for Questions. He currently lives in London and has not confirmed his relationship status. Recently, he opened up about a sad breakup, saying: "2 and a half years ago I had a break up, and at the time it seemed like the worst thing that could have happened. But what I didn’t know was it was the start of a really beautiful journey. I wrote loads and loads and loads of songs because it was really the only thing that i felt I could do."

Activism and Celebrity Traitors

Sebastian has publicly identified as queer and teamed up with actor Connor Jessup in 2023 to create the Queer Was Always Here initiative. The official website reads: "Queer Was Always Here is a community dedicated to queer lives, queer art and queer history. We work in partnership with Choose Love to secure futures for LGBTQIA+ refugees and displaced people around the world."

The first episode of the second series of Celebrity Traitors was watched by nine million people. Just before the episode aired, Sebastian explained he decided to take the opportunity after previously trying to be a "serious actor" before realising he could do both. He told NME: "I once tried to curate how I’d be perceived, and I wanted to be perceived as this, like, ‘serious actor.' But there’s something so liberating about just doing the things that genuinely interest and excite you – like The Celebrity Traitors – and then letting other people decide what that makes you."
