Vogue Williams hits back at 'maternity laws' backlash

Vogue Williams has pushed back against fan criticism that she is 'breaking maternity laws' with her newborn son, Remy. The reality star, 40, welcomed her fourth child with husband Spencer Matthews at the beginning of September and has since shared his name and a series of photos.

On a recent episode of her podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me, which she co-hosts with Joanne McNally, Williams addressed a comment she had seen from a fan on social media.

No such law exists

'Someone left a comment on my and Amber's pod, and they were like: "A mother should not be out with their baby at all from a month old" blah blah blah. Like going on this rant about there being a maternity law,' she said.

'I was like, there's no maternity law! And then I was like: "Hang on a second, I'm quite clearly in my bedroom with the baby as well." Anyway, I told her I agreed with her and that women should stay at home for at least one to two years with the baby after giving birth,' she quipped. 'She deleted the comment,' she concluded.

Williams is correct that there is no legal restriction about when newborn babies can leave the home, with most advice sharing that parents should take them out when they feel comfortable and ready to do so.

Name choice clarified

After Remy was born, there was anticipation to find out the name after the parents backtracked on naming him Elvis following concern from friends and family over the bold choice. Many believed Remy was inspired by the famed rat in Ratatouille, something Williams has now pushed back against.

Talking on Heart radio about the choice, she said: 'We liked the name Remy, it was on our list.' She explained that she didn't want lots of people to have the name, joking that 'only old men in France are called Remy'. Williams then clarified she had actually forgotten about the Disney movie, although she acknowledged it was a 'great movie'.
