Across the United States, cities concluded Pride month with vibrant parades and festivals on the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising, which sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. This year's celebrations unfolded as President Trump continues to roll back transgender rights and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
NYC Pride 2026: 'For All of Us'
The 57th annual New York City Pride march, themed 'For All of Us', honored the legacy of Marsha P. Johnson. Thousands marched down Fifth Avenue from Midtown to Greenwich Village, passing the historic Stonewall Inn. Grand marshals included comedian Bowen Yang and the activist group Gays Against Guns, founded after the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting that killed 49 people. Attendee Carlos Duarte said: 'It's very important for us to be here … all together for love, peace and to show the world who we are.'
Dyke March and Other Events
On June 27, the 34th annual New York City Dyke March drew thousands along Fifth Avenue, ending in Washington Square Park. The march featured participants carrying banners for the Marsha P Johnson Institute. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also joined the Pride march on Sunday.
Pride Across the Country
In San Francisco, California, revelers attended the annual Pride parade on June 28, with large crowds celebrating in the streets. Nashville, Tennessee, held its Pride parade on June 27, while St. Petersburg, Florida, saw participants like 15-year-old Tyler Coyle turning around during the parade on Saturday. In Denver, Colorado, members of the Airheads of Colorado marched during the Pride Parade on Sunday.
Political Context
This year's Pride events took place against a backdrop of political challenges. The Trump administration has pursued policies to restrict transgender rights and dismantle DEI programs, prompting many participants to emphasize the importance of visibility and solidarity. The NYC Pride march, which began as a demonstration honoring the Stonewall riots, has evolved into a global symbol of LGBTQ+ resilience, unity, and activism.
