Travis Kelce has spoken for the first time since tying the knot with Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden last month, revealing the controversial venue was chosen because it fulfilled a childhood dream.
The 36-year-old Kansas City Chiefs star described the July 3 wedding as the 'best night of [his] life', explaining why the New York arena was selected despite some online criticism branding it tacky.
Childhood dream realised
'It was kind of cool to live out my childhood dream of being in that venue, the mecca of all sports venues, being able to get married there,' he shared.
Speaking at the Chiefs' training camp in Missouri, Travis told reporters the night was 'crazy' and thanked their guests for attending. 'It was full of a lot of celebration,' he continued, smiling as he reflected on the night in a clip shared on social media.
Referring to the singer as his 'wife' for the first time, Travis revealed he had wanted to watch the Knicks playoffs in June but was unable to go. 'My wife went when I was stuck in a mini camp so I didn't get my opportunity to go then,' he said of Taylor's appearance courtside.
Wedding details emerge
Little is known about the wedding itself, but Travis joked the air conditioning was 'cooking' in the 37°C heat. Decorations reportedly included a 'forest' of real trees, with actor Adam Sandler officiating the ceremony in front of an estimated 1,000 guests.
Guests signed NDAs alongside their RSVPs, and no official pictures have been released. However, some details have emerged from attendees. Robin Roberts claimed the ceremony was 'really intimate', while her Good Morning America co-host called it a 'dream wedding'.
Jason Kelce, who served as Travis' Man of Honor, told fans they had a 'good time' and that the wedding was 'great', joking he had 'way more' than 15 beers. Greg James reported a 'beast of a hangover', admitting he 'still can't quite believe that it happened'.
Star-studded reactions
NFL star Ryan Fitzpatrick told People magazine that 'everything [was] top notch' with 'six-plus hours of dancing'. 'When Adam Sandler walked out, it had everybody floored; that was really cool,' he said, adding: 'The ceremony was beautiful.'
Graham Norton spilled some details on Virgin Radio UK, carefully avoiding concrete answers to Chris Evans' questions. He said: 'You saw things, you know, "Oh, that's a lovely touch," and then you saw things, like, "Oh, I wouldn't have done that." It was a lovely, lovely wedding.'
The presenter shared that the most exciting part of the day was actually the build-up, 'being in the car' driving through New York, which had come to a halt around MSG. 'Being in the big black car and you're heading toward Madison Square Garden, that was the kind of big, exciting [thing],' Graham explained.
