Paul Gorton, a breakout star from the second season of The Traitors, has revealed an awkward run-in with Laura Whitmore at the BAFTA TV Awards. Speaking on the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall, Gorton recounted a moment where he inadvertently upset the presenter.
Gorton explained that he did not realise Whitmore was married to Iain Stirling, the narrator of Love Island. When he remarked, “Oh, I didn’t realise you were his other half!” Whitmore replied, “That’s all I’m known as, then? His other half?” Gorton clarified that Whitmore was “incredible” and that he believed she was joking.
In contrast, Gorton shared a more positive celebrity encounter with comedian Stephen Merchant. Merchant approached him and asked for a photograph, which Gorton described as the best moment of his life. He likened seeing famous people to visiting a zoo, saying, “You let them be.”
The BAFTAs were a success for the BBC, with The Traitors winning two awards: Best Reality and Most Memorable Moment for Alan Carr’s emotional win. Host Claudia Winkleman, who flew from Scotland where the second season is filming, thanked the cast and viewers for their support.
