Tom Cruise and Debbie Allen celebrated their impending honorary Oscars with a dance at a party in Los Angeles on Saturday. The event was held at Allen's Debbie Allen Dance Academy, where the two were seen taking to the floor together.
Footage shared on Instagram by Project Angel Food chief executive Richard Ayoub showed the Top Gun star joining Allen for a spin as the deejay encouraged everyone to dance. They were accompanied by Jenifer Lewis and Allen's sister Phylicia Rashad, with music including Cameo's "Candy" and Maze and Frankie Beverley's "Before I Let Go". Jennifer Hudson was also among the guests.
Both Cruise and Allen are due to receive their statuettes at the Governors Awards ceremony on Sunday night at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood. Production designer Wynn Thomas will also be honoured, while Dolly Parton is set to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, although she is not expected to attend because of health issues.
The list of recipients was announced in June. Janet Yang, then president of the Academy, said the honorees were "four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our filmmaking community continue to leave a lasting impact". She praised Allen as a "trailblazing choreographer and actor" and noted Cruise's "incredible commitment" to the filmmaking and stunts communities.
