Shaun Wallace, known for his stern persona on The Chase, has made a rare comment about his private love life. The 66-year-old quizmaster, appearing on a podcast, confirmed there is someone he loves but declined to share details.
Rare admission about his partner
When asked if there was somebody in his life whom he loved, Wallace replied: "Yeah of course there is." When the host, Mr Motivator, asked if he might meet his mystery companion, Wallace playfully responded: "No you can't."
In 2024, the ITV star confirmed he was in a relationship but wasn't married and didn't have children. Speaking to Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast, he said he was "married" to his career and "happier" that way.
Emotional side revealed
During the chat, Wallace opened up about his vulnerable side, insisting he is nothing like his emotionless TV persona. On the On Your Bike with Mr Motivator podcast, he said: "I'm emotional, I'm not a machine, I have feelings. You know, what Shakespeare said, if you prick me, do I not bleed? Of course I do, I'd like to think."
He recalled being told he had an "extremely high" level of emotional intelligence during production for The Chasers Road Trip. "So I think I've got a great degree of empathy because I do care about people and people are important to me," he continued.
Career and family choices
Wallace explained why he didn't have children, saying: "It was a conscious reason - when I was a young struggling barrister. I didn't think it would be right to bring up a child when you're trying to climb to the top of that greasy pole."
He added: "And I've never regretted that decision. I've got 15 godchildren. Two of them are called Shaun and I'm the best godfather in the world. I probably would have been a great dad but I've got not regrets in relation to that."
Wallace has been part of The Chase since it began in 2009 and appears in the spin-off The Chase Across The World, which continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
