Taylor Swift reverted to being a little girl again when she met her childhood Toy Story heroes this week. The superstar, 36, fangirled over Tom Hanks, who voices cowboy Woody in the hit animated series, even asking him to sign her old VHS copy of the first film at the Hollywood premiere of Toy Story 5.
Hanks said: "I did not get a selfie but I did sign her original VHS of the first Toy Story. I told her she should have brought the VHS machine so that we could have signed it as that could go in the Smithsonian Institute as well."
Hanks and the cast were completely unaware that Taylor had recorded a song for the new movie until a few days ago: "We did not know, we were told the day it came out... they don't trust us." Tim Allen, who plays Buzz, quipped: "It was like the CIA came into the room!"
Taylor got up on stage to sing her new song, 'I Knew It, I Knew You' from the fifth instalment, and also joined Randy Newman for a rendition of his legendary original Toy Story tune, 'You've Got A Friend In Me'.
She said: "I'm also lucky enough to be here because of someone else who is the architect of the Toy Story musical universe. He is the king of making us feel the absolute most and pulling out our heartstrings and making us laugh, and making us feel like he's one of our friends, you know what I mean? I'm talking about Randy Newman!"
Afterwards, Tom Hanks offered Taylor some important wedding advice ahead of her big day: "The man must make the waffles on Sunday!"
Taylor was thrilled to be there and told the crowd: "It means the world to me to be a small part of the universe of these films, and Toy Story 5 is my favourite of all the Toy Stories. I'm so lucky that I can be part of this. And I want to thank all the creators at Disney and Pixar for all the work they put into this film. It's insanely beautiful. It's a masterpiece. We're so lucky to get to have this film out. Your work is amazing, and I hope you're all so proud of yourselves if you're in this room and you work on this film. Thank you so much."
She added: "I would like to say that Joan Cusack has done such an extraordinary job as Jessie. And I'm very lucky that I got to write for this film."
Toy Story 5 is out June 19.
