The Monday letters page questions whether the Nintendo Switch 2 is worth the price, as a reader is surprised by the cost of the Redmagic phone. Games Inbox is a collection of our readers’ letters, comments, and opinions. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.uk
Reader tempted by Switch 2 deal
Hollison is tempted by a £134 off Nintendo Switch 2 deal, noting that after a mixed first year and a half, things are starting to get more interesting with Zelda out this Christmas and a fairly packed spring. They are interested to hear from readers on their opinions, both those that got it straight away and those that have jumped in recently.
They still half regret their PlayStation 5, calling it a disappointment and very expensive, despite it being the only choice for non-Nintendo games. They think it's obvious the Switch 2 isn't going to be another Wii U, but things are getting expensive and they are wary of spending that much money.
Mass Effect vs. Battlefront
Wrong choice says they would much rather have a new Mass Effect than a Star Wars: Battlefront 3. They argue half the budget for Battlefront would go on the Star Wars licence, and even if EA got a good deal, it's still a big chunk because the IP is not in the best shape. They point out EA doesn't own the IP and can't do anything with it, like make Amazon TV shows, as they're apparently doing with Mass Effect.
They believe a good Mass Effect would make much more money for EA and don't get why they wouldn't go for it, even if BioWare only had 50 people when it closed. They call it a tragedy all round.
Call Of Duty's future
David says Call Of Duty will eventually die, and the thing that will kill it is next gen gaming. They say hardware prices are getting to a point where it will be out of most people's hands, and unless people buy the next gen hardware, it's going to be a painful death if they don't sell enough games. They predict next gen game prices might hit the £80 to £90 point, and if a profit isn't made, there's no point in making the hardware and software.
Redmagic phones questioned
Michael Veal asks if any readers have heard of or use a Redmagic gaming phone, having seen the company's newest product advertised on X. They note the phones are expensive with high specs, but they wouldn't consider a phone as a primary or practical gaming device, worrying about dropping it or losing it to thieves. GC responds that performance issues are very rarely an issue on mobile phones, but maybe they're using it for emulation, adding the ads seem curiously vague as to what problem the phone is meant to be solving.
PlayStation sales and stagnation
Zeiss feels we've been hearing that the PlayStation 5 is roughly on par with the PlayStation 4 since it came out. They note it will likely sell around 120 million in its lifetime, which is 30 million short of the Switch and 40 million off the record of the PlayStation 2. They see why publishers worry that gaming is stagnating, because nothing but the Switch and DS has come close since the PlayStation 2, and Nintendo's consoles are doing very different things. They worry the number of people that want to buy a console hasn't increased and will probably decrease because nobody can afford them, with streaming as the only alternative.
Sam Altman's DRAM comments
The Dude Abides references Sam Altman, of Open AI fame, who believes individuals owning stuff that uses RAM is bad. Altman said, 'From a global allocation perspective, actually it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer, and be used 5% of the time.' The reader notes Altman also said, 'I think AI will probably, like, most likely sort of lead to the end of the world. But in the meantime, there will be great companies created with serious machine learning.' The reader concludes the hobby is likely dead thanks to AI, but says whatever you're playing, enjoy it while you can.
Roblox decline welcomed
Beamer says Roblox being on the decline is the best news they've heard in gaming for a long time, wishing their kids were old enough to forbid them from using it. They say talking to other parents, the whole thing seems dangerous and a system for parting children with their pocket money. They have no problem with Minecraft or Fortnite but see no defence for Roblox, hoping it goes bust completely.
Comments section removed
Alvin Rainflowers asks if the comments section has been removed, having tried multiple browsers, networks, and devices. They were going to comment on Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and it not being a 1:1 remake, feeling every iteration of Zelda is the same story told differently. GC responds that comments have been taken down across the site at the moment but they're trying to sort out an alternative solution, noting the Inbox has always been intended as the primary way to communicate with readers.

Cascke is surprised to hear that Ubisoft isn't planning any more Assassin's Creed remakes, thinking an Assassin's Creed 1 remake would be a bit pointless, but they would have bought a new Assassin's Creed 2. Focus finds it interesting that nobody is calling for Phil Spencer to return, despite Asha Sharma being a non-gamer, concluding he really was that bad.
