Sydnie Christmas, who won Britain's Got Talent in 2024, performed for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at David Foster's charity gala in Canada over the weekend. The 31-year-old singer shared the Duke of Sussex's reaction to her performance, revealing he broke royal protocol by giving her a hug.
Royal Reaction to Performance
Christmas performed "Tomorrow" from Annie and Frank Sinatra's "My Way" in front of the royal couple. She told The Sun from Canada: "When I was on stage, I joked about meeting his dad before adding, 'Sorry he couldn't make it. He sent me instead'." She admitted her comment made the prince laugh.
After leaving the stage, Harry came forward for a hug. Christmas said: "He just went in for the hug and I was like, 'Why not?'." She also revealed his first words to her: "And he went, 'Sydnie, I felt every word. I really felt that in the back of my throat'."
Charity Event Details
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the event on Friday, celebrating 40 years of fundraising for the David Foster Foundation. Meghan wore a dress by Canadian designer Greta Constantine, while Harry wore a classic black tuxedo with a matching bow tie.
Christmas shared a photo on Instagram from the event, showing her with the royal couple. Both songs she performed have poignant lyrics about overcoming difficulties, which clearly touched Harry.
