Susanna Reid made a brief return to Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (August 18) via FaceTime from Ibiza to urge viewers to vote for the show after its National Television Award nomination. The host joined co-presenters Ed Balls and Kate Garraway on a video call during the broadcast, which was interrupted by entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold with the news.
Hosts Reunited on Video Call
Susanna is currently on her summer holiday from the ITV morning show, along with co-presenter Ed Balls, with both scheduled to return to screen in September. Kate Garraway was having a day away from the studio at home and is expected back on set the following day.
Richard Arnold broke into the broadcast to share the announcement, appearing alongside Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh at the presenting desk. He accessed the programme's private group conversation live during transmission before video-calling Susanna, Ed, and Kate on FaceTime, with weather forecaster Laura Tobin and presenter Jonathan Swain also in attendance.
Nomination in Daytime Category
Susanna was the quickest to respond, with Richard welcoming her: "Good morning, Susanna." "Hi, guys. Morning. Good morning," she answered. Once the remaining presenters connected, Richard made light-hearted remarks about seeing everyone's faces simultaneously before enquiring where Susanna was enjoying her holiday. Susanna chuckled: "Normally, what happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza, but this morning, I'm on special duty for Good Morning Britain."
Ed disclosed he was in Norway, just south of Oslo, taking in the scenery from a stunning fjord. He quipped: "And a bit like Susanna, I've been all night, night clubbing and I'm going to bed after this show."
Richard then explained why he'd broken into the broadcast: "I've got some cracking news for you, which is why I've interrupted." He shared that Good Morning Britain had secured a nomination for a National Television Award in the 2026 Daytime category, facing competition from This Morning, Loose Women, and James Martin's Saturday Morning.
Appeal to Viewers
Addressing Susanna, Richard stated: "So, in a few words, Susanna, you have the floor. Why should people vote for Good Morning Britain?" Susanna wasted no time in making her appeal: "Because we are absolutely the best daytime," she proclaimed.
She went on to describe receiving unexpected backing while in Ibiza, recounting how she'd been at one of the island's daytime venues when she noticed staff members carrying placards urging support for GMB. "And by the way, yesterday, I was at one of the best daytime clubs in Ibiza, other daytime clubs are available, and I had a little heads up, and they had the lovely women out doing the placards," she said. "I think you have a photograph of it from O Beach yesterday. They said 'vote GMB.'"
The show then displayed a photo of staff at O Beach holding up signs spelling out "Vote GMB", which sparked cheers from the presenters. Kate declared: "Look at that. Look at that." Richard Arnold quipped: "It's the GMB dancers. You never travel light."
Ed also backed the show, acknowledging the competition was tough but maintaining GMB warranted viewers' support. "It's strong competition, but who is the best with that four? It's got to be GMB," he said. "I'm sure all our viewers, and we're missing them so much while we're away, will be getting on the phones, on the internet and voting."
Ed pointed to the transformations the show has experienced over the past year, describing the nomination as "absolutely brilliant for GMB" and giving credit to the entire team. "It all depends upon our audience. So do you come and support us," he added. Kate concurred, commending the show's staff and acknowledging it had been quite some time since GMB had secured a nomination. "It's an amazing, amazing team, and it's a long time since we've been nominated, and it's about time we won," she said.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
