Strictly's Delta Goodrem out of live show due to rib injury

Delta Goodrem will not take part in Saturday's live Strictly Come Dancing show after sustaining a rib injury, with the singer and her partner Kai Widdrington receiving a bye through to next week.

The Eurovision performer had scored the series' first nine in week three, dancing a Salsa to a medley of Always There by Jocelyn Brown and Ain't Nobody by Chaka Khan.

Doctors advise rest

Ellie Taylor announced the news on spin-off show It Takes Two on Monday, October 12, reading a statement from a Strictly spokesperson.

"Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing," the statement said.

"In line with the rules of the show, Delta and Kai will receive a bye through to next week when it is hoped they will be able to dance again. We wish Delta the very best as she continues her recovery."

Fans show support

Delta said she was "gutted" by the setback, describing the experience as "heartbreaking" and vowing to focus on recovery so she can return to the dancefloor.

Fans flooded social media with messages of support. "Oh Delta get better soon lovely," one supporter wrote, while another said: "Delta has been absolutely carrying this series. Hope she is back next week!"

A further viewer wrote: "Gutted! Going to miss her and Kai dancing!" and another added: "Absolutely gutted but rest well and you'll be back on that dance floor in no time."

Before the series began, Delta had spoken about her excitement at taking part, saying she felt "very much ready to grab my dancing shoes" and was approaching the competition "with a total open heart." She also said the timing "felt right" for taking on new challenges and stepping out of her comfort zone.

Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two airs weeknights from 6.30pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
