Strictly's Aljaz Skorjanec gets same verdict over 'new' look

Strictly Come Dancing professional Aljaz Skorjanec received mixed reviews from viewers at home as he debuted a strong new look for his Charleston performance. It comes after Melanie Walters took to the dancefloor with him in hopes of improving from their previously low score.

Aljaz's Strictly journey

Professional dancer Aljaz joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2013, where his first partner was Abbey Clancey. After receiving all 8's from the judges in their first Waltz, the pair later won the coveted Glitterball trophy in the final.

He then briefly left the show in 2022 before returning for the 2024 series. Married to professional dancer and It Takes Two host Janette Manrara, the star admitted the pair always wanted children.

Last year, he was paired with La Voix, but the pair had to sadly withdraw from the competition after reaching Blackpool due to an injury.

Melanie's emotional connection

However, this year Aljaz is paired with Gavin & Stacey icon Melanie. Last week, Melanie became emotional as they danced the Waltz to Edelweiss from The Sound Of Music.

Melanie teared up as she shared the film's connection to her late mum, Margaret Walters, as the couple teased what viewers can expect from their dance.

“It was my mum’s favourite film, it was played in the house. Unfortunately, she got Alzheimer’s, and that was the one that really got through to her. We played it at her funeral,” she said before having to wipe away tears.

Aljaz noted: “This Waltz is becoming more and more special.” To which Melanie replied: “It’s going to be extraordinary, she’ll be there in spirit.”

Charleston scores and viewer reactions

They challenged something much more fun for week three, however, as they danced the Charleston. Sadly, the judges still weren't impressed with the performance as they finished with 17 points.

It was Aljaz's change in appearance that got viewers talking, as he donned a moustache and wig for the occasion. On X, @kaaaaatie_x wrote: "never let aljaz wear that moustache ever again".

@xxncisaddictxx added: "Aljaz looks so silly with the mustache" as @karistbh agreed: "i cannot take aljaz seriously with that hair and fake tash".
