Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left with the same complaint after Will Best and Dianne Buswell's Movie Week routine, as they felt the judges' comments and scores were too harsh.
Movie Week arrived earlier than ever in the ballroom on Saturday night (October 3), with the celebrities performing routines inspired by classic films, award-winning blockbusters, musicals and cartoons for the second live show of the season.
The BBC One dance show opened with a pre-recorded routine based on the Disney animated film Zootopia, with the professionals dressed as animals such as a bunny and a gazelle as they danced to Shakira's tracks from the first film and its 2025 sequel: Try Everything and Zoo.
Will and Dianne's Risky Business routine
Will and Dianne performed a foxtrot to Old Time Rock & Roll from Risky Business, with Will channelling Tom Cruise from the 1983 film by wearing a pink shirt and pants. They were awarded 19 out of a possible 40 points, leaving them with a total of 37 points across weeks one and two, which have been combined with the public vote in a bid to seal their fate in week three of the competition.
Fans rushed to show their support for the pair after believing they were "undermarked" for their routine.
@slinehan1 said: "Old Time Rock n' Roll doesn't work for a foxtrot at all!! Will and Dianne have been put at such a disadvantage this week. #Strictly."
@flickersuggs commented: "I don't care what any of the judges say, it's more a critique of the producers for giving them a foxtrot for this movie and song, it should've been a cha cha. REGARDLESS i loved this and will and dianne ate it up #strictly."
Fans and former pro speak out
@diannesstyles shared: "Will and dianne = ROBBED sorry but 19??? no way was that a 4 there was no mistakes and his frame and footwork werent even that awful definitely room for improvement but that score was a tad bit harsh #strictly."
courtneygroves25 posted: "amazing!!! undermarked again, for a complete beginner this was fab, all my votes going to this team."
@tamsin_niven wrote: "Severely undermarked! i think we need to remember that it's only week 2 and for a complete novice will did brilliant. also to be given a song that doesn't quite fit a foxtrot dianne choreographed it so well. proud of my team."
@evelynannarosa typed: "Extremely harsh from the judges. This was everything movie week is about and an amazing first ballroom from Will. Keep your heads up Will and Dianne, you are way better than all that criticism. I personally loved it a lot!"
@cmeira379 added: "Will & Dianne ridiculously underscored! Imagine as a beginner spending so many hours all week trying to get your technique right to get given 5's & then other people coming out, walking around the dance floor with not a single bit of technique & getting 7's.. madness & got to be so deflating."
Former Strictly pro Joanne Clifton, who lifted the Glitterball trophy with Ore Oduba in 2016, also spoke out in support of Will and Dianne, with Dianne sharing her verdict video to her Instagram Story. Joanne said in her video: "Was I watching a different number to the judges for Will and Dianne? We must have been watching a complete different number... His frame was amazing... I know they've worked on it this week because I've seen the training videos and wrote it down. It was amazing."
