Stockport's Spectacular Sunday will return for a fourth year on Sunday, 15 November, bringing a Christmas parade, a new lights switch-on and the world's smallest nightclub to the town centre.
Organised in partnership by Stockport Council, Totally Stockport, Merseyway Shopping Centre and Stockport Market, with production by Global Grooves, the event will feature more than 200 performers and over 50 free shows. From 12pm to 5pm, streets and squares will become stages for larger-than-life puppets, daring circus, mischievous comedy and live music.
Parade finale and lights switch-on
The afternoon will build to a showstopping parade finale featuring over 100 drummers and a new Christmas lights switch-on at 4.45pm. Visitors have been told to expect a "unique Christmas celebration" with a distinctly Stockport twist.
Mark Ross, CEO of Totally Stockport, said: "There’s something very Stockport about finding the world’s smallest nightclub on your doorstep, encountering a giant snow lion and then watching a finale with over 100 drummers."
Attractions and entertainment
Visitors will be able to encounter the majestic giant Snow Lion alongside dancing elves and towering stilt walkers, embark on a circus space adventure Over The Moon, or get hands-on with Hydropunk, a playful water-powered spectacle of pipes, pumps, sprays and puzzles. The Miniscule of Sound – The World’s Smallest Nightclub returns again this year.
Festive bands and local community performers will provide plenty of Christmas cheer, while Brazilian-inspired drumming from Juba do Leão and Katumba will bring an exuberant soundtrack. Entertainment will stretch across Merseyway, Suffragette Square, The Underbanks, Market Place and Redrock.
Community spirit
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills at Stockport Council, added: "It’s fantastic to see Stockport’s Spectacular Sunday return for a fourth year. The event has become a much-loved part of Christmas in Stockport, bringing together creativity, community spirit and plenty of festive cheer."
Full programme details will be announced soon. The event is free to attend and takes place on Sunday, 15 November, 12pm until 5pm.
