The British Musical Fireworks Championship lit up the sky over Victoria Park in Southport on Sunday, September 27. Visitors were treated to a showcase of colour, formations and special effects as fireworks exploded in time with a specially selected soundtrack.
Scale and Preparation
Expert pyrotechnic teams used more than 10 tonnes of fireworks and two tonnes of explosive materials while competing to deliver a dazzling performance. Each display required around five kilometres of cabling to connect the electrical systems, with approximately 15 technicians spending more than 12 hours preparing the show.
Competition and Entertainment
A panel of judges scored each performance to determine the winner during the event, which spanned two nights from Saturday, September 26 to Sunday, September 27. Firework teams launched their displays choreographed to a musical soundtrack, with each display varying in mood, patterns, colours, effects, timing and overall design depending on what the team aimed to convey.
This year's competitors included Skyburst (Saturday), Monumental Fireworks (Saturday), Sonic Fireworks (Saturday), Celestial Displays (Sunday), Flashpoint Fireworks (Sunday) and Fire Monkey Pyro (Sunday). Grounded activities included children's inflatables, attractions, street food, bars, hot drinks, glitter and face painting.
