Romeo Beckham, Amanda Holden and Carol Vorderman were among the celebrities who joined millions of Britons on Wednesday night to watch the solar eclipse, as the moon covered 96 per cent of the sun and some parts of the country fell into near total darkness.

Amanda Holden watched the rare phenomenon with a group of friends and her new goddaughter, sharing photos of herself and the baby wearing special glasses. Carol Vorderman enjoyed the spectacle from a boat on a river, captioning her posts: “SOLAR ECLIPSE FROM THE RIVER TONIGHT. With full reflection on the water.”
Romeo Beckham shared his delight over the eclipse before watching his favourite team Arsenal play a friendly match against Como. Posting a selfie, he wrote: “Eclipse, and then Arsenal playing... doesn't get better.”
Creative Viewing Methods
Paddy McGuinness revealed he and his children used cereal boxes with tiny holes poked through to protect their eyes, writing on Instagram: “It’s amazing what you can see with some old cereal boxes, tinfoil and over a thousand pounds worth of iPhone.” John Bishop also resorted to household items, viewing the eclipse through the tiny holes of a colander.
Myleene Klass wore Pride-themed glasses as she watched with friends including Kate Thornton. Ronan Keating played his song “When You Say Nothing At All” on his balcony during the eclipse. Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden enjoyed the sight from a rooftop after training, and The One Show hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Jones wore matching glasses during a special episode about the eclipse.
One Celebrity Missed Out
Jeremy Clarkson said he was “so annoyed” that the eclipse wasn’t visible from his home in the Cotswolds. Sharing a photo of the sun as a bright white blob across his fields on Instagram, he wrote: “So annoying. We didn’t get the eclipse in Chipping Norton.” The next partial eclipse will be in 2050, and the next total one will be in 2090.
