Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas has revealed details of two new books in the A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) saga, prompting an ecstatic response from fans. The announcement was made on Instagram, where Maas has three million followers.
Release dates and titles announced
The first new book, titled 'A Court of Splintered Harmony', is scheduled for release on October 27, 2026. A brief synopsis for this sixth book states that "what was broken will be remade." This will be followed by 'A Court of Forgotten Melody', due out on January 12, 2027, with a synopsis saying "what was lost will be reclaimed."
Maas has since cleared her Instagram account to feature only two posts promoting the upcoming books, which include the cover art. Both instalments form part of a new storyline called 'The Valkyrie Cycle', with book six representing 'movement I' and book seven acting as 'movements II and III'.
Fans react with excitement
No further plot details have been revealed yet. Teasers have also been shared by Waterstones, with fans already expressing interest in signing up for "exclusives" when they become available.
Since the first ACOTAR book was published in 2015, the series has become a leading example of 'romantasy', a genre blending magic and fantasy world-building with high-stakes romance. The saga centres on the Archeron sisters—Feyre, Nesta, and Elaine—and their adventures in the mythical land of Prythian. It has sold over 13 million copies and been optioned by Hulu for a TV adaptation.
Previous titles include A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and A Court of Frost and Starlight. The current final book, A Court of Silver Flames, was released in 2021.
Speculation begins
With anticipation building over the five-year wait, fans have flocked to Maas's Instagram to share their reactions. One fan wrote: "A COURT OF SCREAMING CRYING AND THROWING UP. IM SO EXCITED." Another commented: "STOP IM SCREAMING." A third said: "Already know this will emotionally destroy us."
Some fans have speculated on the titles' meanings, with one suggesting "Splintered harmony is also interesting.. as in the inner circle maybe?" Others believe the books may focus on supporting characters, writing: "YES AZRIEL AND GWYN!! Since it’s Harmony- I’m assuming it’s about the two characters who can SING!!" Another fan simply added: "STAY CALM STAY CALM STAY CALM- me to me."
