The 'quiet luxury' trend, known for understated elegance and premium quality, is now influencing baby names across England and Wales. An analysis of Office for National Statistics (ONS) data by baby retailer Kiddies Kingdom reveals that names with aristocratic associations are climbing the popularity charts.
Top rising girls' names
Ottilie leads the list of fastest-rising girls' names, jumping 357 places since 2015 to rank 55th in 2025. The name, of French and German origin, means 'wealth' or 'prosperous in battle' and offers nicknames like Lottie, Tillie, and Otto. Margot, pronounced 'Mar-go', follows in second place, derived from the French name Marguerite and meaning 'pearl'.
Other top girls' names include Mabel, Ophelia, Ada, Olive, Elodie, Rosa, Arabella, and Iris. Many of these were outside the top 100 a decade ago, indicating a shift towards traditional choices.
Top rising boys' names
Among boys' names, Otis has risen 188 places since 2015, also carrying a meaning of 'wealth' or 'prosperity'. Rupert, of Germanic origin meaning 'bright glory', takes second place. Other notable names include Vincent, Jasper, Alfred, Theodore, Felix, Arthur, Louis, and Ralph.
The trend reflects a broader 'old money' aesthetic that values timeless elegance over ostentatious displays. Kirsty Carroll, parenting expert at Kiddies Kingdom, said: "With 'quiet luxury' taking over trends in fashion and interiors, it's interesting to see a similar preference for heritage and tradition reflected in the names parents are choosing for their children. That wider 'old money' aesthetic feels much more visible now than it did a decade ago."
