Gregor Fisher, best known for his role as Rab C. Nesbitt, has announced a new cooking programme on YouTube, following the success of his home cooking videos that turned him into an internet sensation last year. The 72-year-old Scottish actor and comedian, whose career spans almost 40 years, revealed the news on Instagram on October 1.
Fisher is moving from Instagram to YouTube to create longer and more 'complicated' recipes. He said: "I'm told you can even watch this one on your telly so it's pretty much a cooking programme. Link is in my bio and story to watch the full video."
New recipes and outdoor kitchen
In a video wearing his apron, Fisher told his Instagram followers: "We've migrated to the YouTube. We're going to be up the YouTube and I hope you're going to join us. I'm going to make slightly more complicated recipes nowadays for this channel because you get ten minutes and not the three minutes you get on that Instagram and you've got to be running about like a blue arsed fly."
He added: "And I've got a heart condition for God's sake. Now, the steak pie is going to happen outside in the garden because my darling son-in-law has built me an outdoor kitchen. Eh? It's unbelievable actually. Want a swatch? Come on and I'll show you."
Fans react to the announcement
Fans rushed to the comments to share their excitement. One wrote: "@bbcscotland get this legend signed up for a Scottish cooking show." Another said: "Great, a good length video, wouldn't complain a bit longer. BBC really need to give you a cooking show, even if it's 3/4 episodes."
A third commented: "Just joined now. Looking forward to it! Cant wait!" Someone else added: "Already subscribed! Your chicken satay one from a while ago on here is still a fave for the boys and I!"
From Instagram to YouTube
Fisher's cooking career began in 2025 when his daughter Cissie encouraged him to set up an Instagram account and share his recipes. He previously admitted he thought the idea was "doomed to failure".
He said: "I said to her, 'Who the hell wants to watch me cook? What would I cook?' and she said we should start off with something simple, like potato scones. I thought, 'This is doomed to failure. This is the most ridiculous thing'. But I did it, and you know what? Two and a half million people tuned in to watch me make tattie scones."
Often cited as the best parts of his videos, the Love Actually star happily shares Scottish tips and twists for his cooking, including adding porridge oats to his mince and the best way to cook kedgeree. His new cooking series will be uploaded every Thursday to YouTube, with the debut expected on October 8.
