Mr Swainston's Sweet Emporium, a hugely popular 'back in time' sweet shop in the North East, will be seen by millions of BBC viewers on Dragon's Den. Owners John Gray and Sean Robinson will pitch their business on the show, representing South Shields and the wider North East.
Shop's popularity and expansion
Earlier this year, ChronicleLive reported that when the new branch on Fowler Street in South Shields opened, people waited up to two hours to get in. The queue on Good Friday was even bigger than the one at nearby Colmans for fish and chips.
Months later, with kids off school for the summer holidays, business is still booming for Mr Swainston's, which originally started in a smaller premises on Westoe Road.
Dragon's Den appearance
Their episode will air on BBC One on Thursday, August 20. Viewers will see John and Sean pitch their business and share the story behind Mr Swainston's, representing the much-loved tradition of the Great British Sweet Shop.
John said: "We are incredibly proud to represent South Shields on national television. Our traditional sweet shop has been incredibly popular, both in store and online, so to be able to share our story with a national audience is amazing."
Sean added: "We have always believed that Mr Swainston’s is about reigniting memories and bringing families together through traditions. We can’t wait for the UK to discuss their favourite sweet during our pitch."
