Nicole Kidman on Cruise marriage and life after Urban split

Nicole Kidman has spoken candidly about her marriage to Tom Cruise and her life after splitting from Keith Urban, revealing she has been "embracing love" and partying in Ibiza this summer.

In an interview with British Vogue, the Oscar winner, 59, said she filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025 in a Nashville court, citing irreconcilable differences. She admitted the year has not been easy but said she is adapting to her new reality.

Embracing an unknown future

Kidman said: "But at the same time I’m like, ‘OK, I didn’t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now.’"

She added: "You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s… not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now." She described the feeling as "Strange."

Asked if it was also scary, she said: "There was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable, which is exposing. And then at the same time [I’m] going: ’Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope."

Life with Keith Urban and their daughters

Kidman and Urban, 58, met in 2005 and married the following year. They have daughters Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15. Their divorce was finalised in January.

Speaking about her family, Kidman said: "It’s an extraordinary purpose. Everything else is not important. These kids now, that’s what we drop everything for." She described Sunday as "so her own creature" with a strong sense of identity, and noted Faith recently attended Vogue School and loved it.

Reflecting on Tom Cruise marriage

Kidman also discussed her marriage to Tom Cruise, 64, whom she met on the set of Days of Thunder and married on Christmas Eve 1990. They adopted two children, Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, and celebrated their 10-year anniversary in 2000 before Cruise filed for divorce months later.

She said: "Yeah, I got married so young. Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple."

She recalled people warning her about her career, but she said: "I don’t care. I’m in love. I want to be married."

Summer adventures and upcoming film

Kidman described spending her summer between London, Paris, Portofino and Ibiza, where she went clubbing. She said her nights either end in dinner and a board game or a rave, adding: "I’m either playing Scrabble or I’m out."

Next month, Practical Magic 2 will be released, reuniting Kidman with Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest. She credited fans for the sequel, saying: "It was an actual demand from people."

The full feature appears in the September issue of British Vogue, available from Thursday 20th August.
