My Delhi, a popular restaurant on Clayton Street in Newcastle city centre, has been crowned Champion of Champions at the 2026 Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards, an event often described as “The Oscars of the curry industry!”. The accolade is the latest in a series of national honours for the eatery, which was also named North East Restaurant of the Year on the night.
Top prize after regional win
Over 1,250 businesses were nominated nationwide for the awards, which celebrate Asian hospitality. My Delhi first secured the North East Restaurant of the Year title before going on to win the evening's highest honour, Champion of Champions, chosen from regional winners across the country.
The restaurant has previously brought silverware back to the North East, having taken home the best Indian title for last year. It is also known as one of the busiest restaurants in town and has received significant national acclaim.
Team celebrates on social media
The My Delhi team shared their reaction on social media, posting: “We're still trying to take it all in. Seven years ago, we opened our first restaurant in Newcastle with a dream to do things differently. To bring the energy, excitement and food culture of Delhi to life and create an Indian dining experience unlike anything else.”
They added: “We've never stopped pushing ourselves since. Every dish, every detail, every guest experience. That determination to keep getting better is what drives us. This is our biggest achievement yet, and we couldn't be prouder of our incredible teams, our partners, our suppliers and everyone who's been part of our journey.”
Signing off, they wrote: “To every guest who's supported us along the way, thank you. We feel truly blessed. This one's for the North East!”
