Gabriel's turnaround
Gabriel looked embarrassed when his mother took photos of him with his first senior shirt after being in the squad against Rosenborg. He was an unused substitute, so he returned to Carrington on Saturday to play for the U21s. Recognition for Whelan
Tony Whelan, a bedrock of United's academy for 34 years, stepped down in January 2025. He oversaw 97 academy graduates. The indoor pitch at The Cliff was named after him, and he received an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours last month. The 73-year-old described himself as "profoundly honoured." The Association of Former United Players held an event featuring a 'thank you' video from players Whelan coached, including Kobbie Mainoo, who highlighted Whelan's teachings on United values.
