Lucy Davis, known for playing Dawn Tinsley in The Office, has announced she has been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, which has spread to her bones. The 53-year-old actress shared the news on Instagram on 11 August 2026, revealing she has been fighting the illness for a year and a half.
Career Highlights
Davis rose to fame in the UK version of The Office, which ran from 2001 to 2003, alongside Ricky Gervais, Mackenzie Crook, and Martin Freeman. She also appeared in the 2004 film Shaun of the Dead and has had roles in various TV shows including Casualty, The Bill, Pride and Prejudice, Ugly Betty, Death In Paradise, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. On the big screen, she starred in Garfield 2 and Wonder Woman.
Family and Health Struggles
Her father is comedian Robert Davis, known as Jasper Carrott, who hosted the gameshow Golden Balls from 2007 to 2009. Davis had a kidney transplant in 1997 using a donated organ from her mother and was hospitalised for kidney failure in 2005. She has also spoken about struggling with bulimia, particularly during her divorce from actor Owain Yeoman in 2011.
Cancer Announcement
In her Instagram post, Davis wrote: "A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, which has metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip, and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo." She urged followers to "get everything checked out" and noted that her initial lump "wasn't a lump as such, rather a hard spot," admitting she "almost didn't bother getting it checked."
