John Hunt has thanked the public for its “truly humbling” support as he prepares to complete his 120-mile charity walk on Sunday. The BBC Radio 5Live commentator and Sky Sports Racing presenter left his family home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, last Saturday in company with his daughter Amy and her partner Gareth Jones.
The journey, which has taken in stops at Windsor and the New Forest, has raised £85,000 for the Hunt Family Fund, set up to honour John’s wife Carol and the couple’s daughters Hannah and Louise, who were murdered in July 2024. The charity’s objective is to tackle male violence against women and empower women’s lives.
Final leg to Bournemouth
The walk reaches its final leg with a 17-mile trek to Bournemouth and John told Mirror Racing: “Every morning, Amy has read out the messages over breakfast.
“However much pain we’ve had in our legs and feet, every one of them has been so empowering and inspiring.
“The support we’ve all received, both in terms of messages and donations, has been truly humbling and to get to nearly £85,000 is more than we thought possible. But it would be great to get to £100,000!”
Special place for the family
John, who on Monday celebrated the 35th anniversary of his wedding to Carol, added: “Bournemouth was always a special place to Carol and me - we would go there to recharge.
“There are a few aches and pains - my legs could do with a week’s worth of massages and Amy’s feet should be sponsored by a company that makes plasters for blisters - but we’ve really enjoyed the week and have been so buoyed by everyone’s support.”
