Jesy Nelson has shared her heartfelt wish for her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, as she continues to chronicle their battle with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) Type 1. The former Little Mix singer, 35, is documenting her family's journey in the upcoming Amazon Prime documentary Jesy Nelson: Life Changing, which aims to overhaul UK newborn screening laws.
Dream for Her Daughters
Over the weekend, Jesy posted a video on Instagram showing her pushing one of her 14-month-old twins on a park swing while holding her. In the caption, she wrote: "My dream is to one day push my girls on a swing all by themselves but for now we’ll enjoy it just like this." She also shared a clip of one daughter making sounds, commenting: "I think she might be a singer." The twins, whom she shares with ex-fiance Zion Foster, were diagnosed with SMA Type 1 in January 2026.
Struggles with Spinal Jackets and Splints
Jesy has also been transparent about the challenges of the condition. During the UK heatwave, she posted a tearful video explaining that her daughters must wear spinal jackets and splints daily. "I cannot even begin to tell you how much this breaks my heart into a million pieces," she wrote. She noted that while the devices "will never correct" their spines or feet, they "will only prevent it from getting any worse." She added: "Once again, no future SMA babies need to suffer like this if they are given a heel prick test and treatment from birth!"
Documentary and Advocacy
The Jesy Nelson: Life Changing documentary follows her fight to change UK newborn screening policies. Currently, SMA is not included in the standard heel prick test for newborns, which can detect the condition early and allow for life-changing treatment. Jesy has become an outspoken advocate for expanding the screening panel to include SMA, arguing that early intervention could prevent severe symptoms like those her daughters face.
