Jasmine Harman, presenter of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, has expressed her devastation after learning that a former participant on the show died in the recent Spanish wildfires. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Harman shared a heartfelt tribute to Malcolm Timbrell and his wife, Annette Kilgore, who lost her life in the blazes that have swept through the Almería region.
Harman's Emotional Tribute
In her Instagram post, Harman wrote: "Some awful news. You may have seen on the news that Spain has been experiencing some terrible wildfires, and I was so sad to hear of the tragic deaths of several people in Bédar. Sending deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones. Especially to Malcom, who previously appeared with his wife Annette on A Place in the Sun. I don't really have the words to say how very sorry I am for your loss, Malcolm. I know we have never met, I can't imagine what you are going through right now. Sending thoughts and prayers. RIP Annette and others."
Fans React to the Tragedy
Fans of the show were quick to offer their condolences in the comments. One wrote: "Really, really sad, condolences to all." Another added: "I watched that episode. Absolutely devastating for everyone in Spain, particularly Malcolm who lost his beloved wife. Thinking of you and may she RIP."
Malcolm Timbrell's Heartbreaking Interview
Malcolm Timbrell, 70, and his wife Annette Kilgore, 69, had been living in the village of Bédar, which experienced devastating wildfires last week that left 13 people dead. In an interview with BBC News at Six, which aired on Monday, Malcolm said: "We have had an amazing life together and now it's stopped. If we had done the sensible thing and gone the other way and let our cats die, we both would be alive. But when you've got animals, you don't think like that." He added: "We are just waiting now for DNA clarification. And after that, I will probably just fall apart."
Their Appearance on A Place in the Sun
Annette and Malcolm appeared on A Place in the Sun in 2023, where they found their home in Bédar with the help of property expert Leah Charles-King. During the episode, the couple from Cornwall fell in love with a Spanish stone cottage that was on the market for £215,746 at the time of filming. After making an initial offer of £175,000, they eventually purchased the property for a reduced price of £200,000.
Wildfires Continue to Devastate Spain
The wildfires in the Almería region have been described as some of the worst in recent years, with at least 13 confirmed deaths and widespread destruction. Emergency services continue to battle the blazes, which have been exacerbated by high temperatures and dry conditions.
