Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed how his co-star of two decades, Tina O'Brien, broke the news that her character was going to be responsible for killing Weatherfield villain, Theo Silverton.
It was back in June that it was revealed to viewers of the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, that Sarah Platt had murdered the dastardly builder, weeks after the abuse he had subjected his husband, Todd Grimshaw, to was exposed.
The reveal comes after Theo's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain back in April, on the night of her mum, Lisa Swain's, wedding to Carla Connor.
How the Cast Found Out
It wasn't until a week after the wedding aired that it was revealed that Theo was the murder victim, after he was named as one of five Weatherfield villains who could be killed, and which came after Theo tried to torment Todd one last time.
His death then triggered a murder investigation, with Corrie confirming Todd as a suspect, along with George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass and Danielle Silverton.
But as Corrie fans now know, it wasn't any of the six, as it was Sarah who appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground - before calling on her ex, Gary, for help.
Sarah's Confession and Arrest
Sarah struggled in the aftermath of her abusive husband's murder, Sarah ended up confessing the truth of her crime to her friend, while her partner, DC Kit Green, found out when she admitted to killing Theo as he was trying to pop the question.
Despite Kit's attempts to help cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo and while, at first, she pleaded her innocence, the evidence was stacked against her and DS Lisa Connor-Swain said she had no choice but to charge Sarah with Theo's murder.
Now, Jack, who plays Tina's on-screen brother David Platt, has told how he and his on-screen family discovered the direction the storyline was taking. Speaking to Inside Soap, he said: "I remember Tina [O'Brien, who plays Sarah] came into the green room and said: 'I've just been told that I've bashed him over the head!' We were like 'What?' and she told us: 'I've killed Theo!' We were like: 'What? Why? How does that even…?'
"But obviously, Sarah is friends with Todd and has been for a million years, so she didn't like what Theo was doing to Todd. We didn't know exactly how it would come about but she said: 'Yeah, it's me'. We were like: 'Oh! What happens? Do you get sent down for it?' She said: 'I don't know – they don't know. They haven't decided, so it's up in the air!'"
What's Next for Sarah?
As Corrie fans know, Sarah has since ended up admitting to the murder, telling DS Lisa Connor-Swain it was in self-defence, and a number of Corrie stars have been seen sharing photos from location filming in Bolton, which looks set to be Sarah's trial as they take over Bolton's Crown Court.
Jack added: "It came out of the blue for us, so I'm sure it came out of the blue for the viewers, which is good!"
