Hilary Swank announces pregnancy at 52 with third child

Hilary Swank has announced she is pregnant with her third child at the age of 52. The actress and film producer shared the news on Instagram alongside her husband, Philip Schneider, 53, posting a family clip featuring a glowing stick-figure baby over her stomach.

She captioned the post: "A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December." The couple previously welcomed twins, Aya and Ohm, in 2023.

Becoming a mother later in life

The announcement comes after Swank opened up about becoming a mother later in life in an interview with Women's Health UK in April. The star became a first-time mum to her twins at 48 after freezing her eggs when she was 37.

Revealing why this was the 'right time' for her, she said: "I would have had kids earlier. I’m not saying I actively waited until 47. But that was a magical time in my life, when it all culminated. It was the right time for a myriad of reasons."

She added: "I’m a very different parent than I would’ve been, even in my early forties. I’m much more patient. I’m much more understanding. I am much more, I think, interested in a different way than I would’ve been. I’m really interested in their brains. I am fascinated about what makes them tick. And I have my career that’s already established, so I’m not divided. I’m able to really sink in and be present with them and be a hands-on parent."

Career and fan reactions

Despite now being in her fifties, Swank said she has 'more job offers than ever before'. She added: "Most people might be like, ‘Aren’t you worried that you’re now 50 and there’s not a lot of jobs?’ I’m like, ‘No, I have more offers now than I’ve ever had.’ It’s an exciting time."

Fans were quick to congratulate Swank on her latest pregnancy. One wrote: "You’re glowing, Hilary! Congratulations to you and your family." Another added: "The cutest announcement video. Congrats!" While a third chimed in: "How beautiful! What a fun announcement."

Rise to fame and producing career

Two-time Academy Award winner Swank began her professional acting career in the early 1990s with small appearances on television shows such as Growing Pains and Evening Shade. She made her film debut in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) and had her first major lead role in The Next Karate Kid (1994).

In 1997, Swank landed a recurring role as Carly Reynolds on Beverly Hills, 90210, though she was written off the show early, a setback that ultimately paved the way for her breakthrough film role. Her career reached critical acclaim in 1999 when she starred as Brandon Teena in the independent biographical drama Boys Don't Cry, earning her first Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award.

She cemented her status as a top-tier Hollywood leading lady in 2004 when she starred as Maggie Fitzgerald in Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby, earning a second Academy Award for Best Actress and another Golden Globe. Throughout her career, she has also starred in numerous other dramas and films across genres including thrillers, romance, comedy and westerns.

As well as acting, Swank has built a notable producing career, working as a producer or executive producer on projects including TV shows Alaska Daily (2022–2023) and Away (2020), and films The Good Mother (2023), Fatale (2020), What They Had (2018) and 55 Steps (2017).
