Golden Globes 2026: Fashion, Snubs & Brits in Contention as Awards Season Kicks Off
Golden Globes 2026: Stars Shine, Brits Nominated

The 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards officially ignited the 2026 awards season on Sunday, with Hollywood's elite gathering at the famed Beverly Hilton Hotel for a night of glamour and anticipation.

Red Carpet Arrivals Kick Off the Glittering Ceremony

The stars did not disappoint on the red carpet. Brittany Snow, of 'The Hunting Wives', made a stunning entrance in a cream, sleeveless gown by Danielle Frankel, accessorised with EFFY Jewelry and an elegant updo. Television host Gayle King opted for a dramatic beaded cream gown, while Amanda Kloots turned heads in a sleek backless black dress.

Other early arrivals included Kit Hoover in a soft baby blue gown and Dylan Efron, brother to Zac, who looked sharp in a black suit. The ceremony was once again hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who promised to bring her signature 'no-holds-barred' humour to the proceedings for a second consecutive year.

Nomination Leaders and Notable Snubs

When the nominations were revealed, the epic film 'One Battle After Another', starring Leonardo DiCaprio, emerged as the frontrunner with an impressive nine nominations. These included Best Picture, Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and acting nods for DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn.

It faces competition in the Best Picture - Musical or Comedy category from films like 'Blue Moon', 'Bugonia', and 'Marty Supreme'. The biggest shock in this category was the omission of 'Wicked: For Good', though its stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande received acting nominations.

In television, Netflix's hit series 'Adolescence' earned five nominations following its Emmy success, including acting nods for Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and 16-year-old Owen Cooper. However, 'The White Lotus' narrowly pipped it with six nominations, predominantly in the acting categories thanks to its ensemble cast.

Other notable snubs included Sydney Sweeney missing out for 'Christy', and both Kathryn Bigelow's 'A House of Dynamite' and Bradley Cooper's 'Is This Thing On?' failing to secure a single nomination.

British and Irish Talent in the Spotlight

UK and Irish actors feature prominently across the nominations. Irish actress Jessie Buckley is considered the front-runner for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in 'Hamnet'. Her compatriot, Paul Mescal, is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the same film.

In the television categories, Erin Doherty is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for 'Adolescence', where she will compete against fellow Brit Aimee Lou Wood for 'The White Lotus'. Meanwhile, Owen Cooper, also from 'Adolescence', is up for Best Supporting Actor in a TV limited series.

The British contingent has already secured one major honour, as it was announced last month that Dame Helen Mirren will receive the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. She will be presented with the award in a ceremony on January 8th, ahead of the main event on January 11th.

The expanded Golden Globes now honour the best in film, television, and, for the first time, podcasts across 28 categories, setting the stage for the competitive awards season to come.
