Welsh darts ace Gerwyn Price has opened up about finding out he is set to become a grandad at 41. The new-and-improved Price confessed he "won't repeat" his immediate reaction to discovering the big news, hinting a few expletives may have been shared.
It recently emerged that Price's eldest daughter, Emily, and her partner Jude Williams are due to become parents themselves. And despite his initial response, Price has confessed he's "really happy" for the young couple.
Price's Reaction and Thoughts on Future Grandchild
'The Iceman' even gave his two cents on what he thinks of his daughter's partner and the father-to-be, Jude. Price hammered Rob Cross 11-5 in the second round of the World Matchplay on Wednesday before discussing his even happier personal news.
Speaking to the media after reaching the last eight in Blackpool, Price said: "I won't repeat my first couple of words! But after that I was really happy. As long as the baby's healthy, that's all that matters. I'm really happy for them. They're both young and I don't think they quite know what's coming, but they'll be fine. He's a bit lazy, but he's all right. I'll kick him into gear."
Family Focus and New Ventures
The former world No. 1 shares two children with his wife, Bethan. And his eldest is now around the same age he was when he became a parent for the first time. 'Gezzy' has repeatedly spoken up about the importance of family over the course of his darts career. And he put his show of solidarity on display by helping his daughter shop for newborn clothes ahead of the big arrival.
Price recently entered a new line of work after purchasing farmland in Treharris. However, he conceded the new lifestyle may be taking its toll. He said earlier this week: "It goes to show, throwing sheep about instead of darts, it doesn't help! It was a tough one for me. I've got no confidence at the minute because I haven't played a lot."
World Matchplay Campaign
The Markham man will be determined to make the most of his play for the rest of 2026 ahead of the big arrival. However, his World Matchplay campaign was almost brought to a premature end. Price looked the business against Cross but struggled to find his footing in the first round. He found himself 6-2 down against Martin Schindler at one point before emerging as an 11-9 victor.
The seventh seed is next due to face No. 15 Ross Smith at the Winter Gardens. Smith beat Kevin Doets in the first round of the competition before Cameron Menzies gave him a walkover after he was taken ill on stage in Blackpool.
A first World Matchplay title of his career would be a welcome way to celebrate the Price family's recent big news. Even if the Markham icon's initial reaction was unrepeatable.
