Sky Sports News presenter Jo Wilson has revealed she was wrongly told that her cancer had returned.
The journalist had been diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer in September 2022 and announced she had "no evidence of disease" in March 2023 after treatment.
Misdiagnosis and emotional toll
In a recent Instagram post, Wilson wrote: "In February, after my three-year scan, I was told my cancer had returned in a lymph node. I couldn't believe it – it felt like my whole world had crumbled all over again."
She explained that after being referred to a high-dose radiotherapy team, a consultant questioned the diagnosis. "What followed were five months of tests, scans, waiting and uncertainty before, last week, I finally got the news I'd been desperately hoping for, it wasn't cancer after all."
The lymph node is now believed to be a benign neuroma, a cluster of nerves that was likely inflamed at the time of the original scan. She described the relief as "indescribable" but noted the emotional toll of believing her cancer had returned.
Living with uncertainty
Wilson said she shared her story because she doubts whether those who have lived through a cancer diagnosis "ever truly feel free of it" even after the all-clear. She added: "The fear of recurrence can stay with you long after treatment ends, and I think it's important we talk about that reality."
She also said the experience reminded her to be kind, as "we never really know what someone else is carrying."
