Fatboy Slim is giving his debut album "another lease of life", reissuing it 30 years after its original release.
The electronic music producer and DJ, 63, released Better Living Through Chemistry in 1996.
Three decades on, Fatboy Slim – real name Norman Cook – will be reissuing the album digitally, with special-edition LP and CD editions also set to follow.
Reflecting on the album's creation
He said: "Better Living Through Chemistry was basically me figuring out what I was doing. I was making music for the dancefloor, the bedroom, the afterparty and anyone who’d listen.
"Looking back, it’s got all the mistakes, experiments and madness of that time in it, but that’s probably what I love about it most.
"It was the beginning of the Fatboy Slim adventure, and I’m amazed that, all these years later, people are still discovering it, dancing to it and asking me about it. It feels pretty bloody good to give it another lease of life."
Career before the debut
By the time Fatboy Slim had released his first album, he had already been the bassist for the indie rock band the Housemartins, who achieved a number-one single with their 1986 cover of Caravan Of Love.
He then formed the electronic group Beats International and played in the band Freak Power, as well as releasing house records under names including Pizzaman and the Mighty Dub Katz.
His representatives have said that Fatboy Slim’s debut album blended "seemingly unlikely influences" – hip-hop, funk breaks, house, reggae, indie and acid.
Reissue details and impact
They added that the album represented his "fearless approach to sampling and production" and was "bold, inventive and full of character".
"Better Living Through Chemistry established Fatboy Slim as one of the most important figures in the rise of Big Beat and helped define the sound, energy and attitude of late-90s British dance music," they added.
The 30th anniversary 2LP edition has been remastered at half speed, while the 2CD edition features an exclusive bonus disc including B-sides, rare material and a brand-new remix from Dutch DJ and producer Sem Jacobs.
The digital edition has been expanded with an additional remix from Peruvian electronic artist Chinonegro, and Ammo Avenue.
There are also brand-new liner notes from journalist Alexis Petridis, which detail the album’s lasting impact, influence and legacy.
Cook rose to prominence in the 90s after releasing a string of club hits including Praise You, The Rockafeller Skank and Right Here Right Now.
He has since received six Grammy nominations and won the 2002 Best Music Video award for Weapon Of Choice, which stars Hollywood actor Christopher Walken as he dances through a deserted hotel lobby.
Better Living Through Chemistry’s digital reissue will be released on September 25, while the special-edition LP and CD editions will follow on October 2.
