Crofter Ally Williamson was moved to tears after winning a prestigious title on BBC's This Farming Life, and then famously walked off camera saying, "I'm out of here."
Unexpected Victory at Dingwall Mart
At the Dingwall Mart auction house, Ally, who featured in series eight of the show, had travelled from his remote Isle of Lewis home to compete against established mainland breeders. He had openly admitted he did not expect to win, knowing his sheep were not in the same league as the mainland stock.
"I don't think we will get anywhere in the show," he confessed. "That's fine, I accept that."
Emotional Reaction
What happened next left Ally stunned. He claimed first place in the older ewes category, beating out his mainland competition. His winning ewe was then put forward for the overall champion title - and she took that too.
Standing in front of the cameras, visibly overwhelmed, Ally struggled to find the words, saying he "didn't see it coming at all." Then his voice began to crack. His eyes filled with tears as he spoke about what the victory truly meant.
"It's down to all the work and everything that has gone in from the family as well. It means a lot," he said, before cutting himself off entirely. "I'm not getting welled up on camera, I'm out of here," he concluded before walking off.
Sale and Praise
The cameras caught him stepping away to find a quiet moment alone, needing to process an achievement that had caught him completely off guard. His luck did not stop there, as he managed to sell his prized ewe for £750 - £250 more than he had hoped for.
"Bonkers", he said as he was seen shaking his head in amazement. He was elated to receive praise from well-seasoned farmers who had been doing the same thing for many years.
"Getting a well done from these boys, farmers who have been there, done it, it means a lot," he shared. "It's encouragement to keep going, especially when you will get hard days and...everybody gets hard days, but it's very good to come out here and...it feels like a pat on the back for the efforts that nobody else sees."
