Emmerdale pre-Christmas spoilers: Sadie's end, double return

Emmerdale has released new spoilers for the remainder of 2026, teasing a dramatic autumn and winter, including an "epic" Christmas and a "phenomenal" start to 2027. Boss Sophie Roper has shared details with Inside Soap Magazine, while cast members have also teased upcoming plots.

Christmas and New Year

Sophie told Inside Soap: "As the dark nights draw in, our drama intensifies. We have secrets, lies, temptations, betrayals – all building beautifully for that festive season. Christmas will then be epic – that's something I can tell you."

She added: "There's a really exciting, brilliant end to the year, and afterwards, a phenomenal start to 2027. I can promise you that Christmas is going to be a real affair on Emmerdale this year."

A double 'return'

In scenes airing this month, two returns are teased. Samson Dingle is tipped for a prison release after two years, with his family claiming he is moving back to the village. It has not been confirmed by the show that Samson is returning, or that actor Sam Hall will reprise the role.

Tom King, the abusive ex-husband of Belle Dingle, is also set to return, portrayed by actor James Chase. It is not known if Tom will leave prison or head back to the village, but bosses have confirmed he will be back onscreen soon.

Cain's cancer treatment

Cain Dingle was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer earlier this year, and more recently he was told he would need further treatment. Sophie told Inside Soap: "Cain has got the next chapter of his treatment to come to terms with – it will be a course of radiotherapy. That's going to be really challenging for him because it will really impact his physical wellbeing. He's ready to face this – and he's united in his relationship with Moira."

Joe's revenge continues

Joe Tate's revenge is set to continue, with him recently teaming up with Sadie King to target Caleb and Ruby Miligan. Still grieving the loss of his partner Dawn Taylor, Joe continues to blame more than one character for what happened. According to reports, the revenge will not die down any time soon as Joe continues to lash out. Soap producer Laura Shaw told the Mirror in the summer that Joe and Caleb's feud would rumble on and lead well into 2027.

Sadie's 'end'

Sadie King's return was for around six months, and Sophie has now teased how she might go. As her exit looms, the producer teased a dramatic end for her story. She said: "As for how that story concludes, we are building to the end point and a big denouement for that character. Sadie's momentum, and the impact she's going to have on our villagers, is only going to grow. There will be some incredible, exciting twists and turns, and a lot of unexpected revelations."

Thea's identity exposed

Kim Tate will finally find out soon that Thea Ramsden is her long-lost daughter. Fans know that Thea is back for revenge, after Kim had her adopted after she was born. There is said to be a huge showdown on the cards between the pair, as the truth comes out about Thea's identity and her plan. With "mother-like-daughter" moments and tense Halloween scenes on the way, it is one to watch.

Kev and Nicola romance?

Sophie teased that while for now, Kev Townsend and Nicola King would remain friends, they could end up becoming a couple later on. She said: "I think we're seeing them grow a really important bond. That's not to say that it won't evolve as we go into the future! For Nicola to move on, that would be a huge decision and she's certainly not in the mind frame for that now. But what you will see is an incredible friendship that will have real depth and bring so much joy in the coming weeks and months."

The publication claimed that Emmerdale "want to take a slow-burn approach with Nicola and Kev's connection to see how fans react". Sophie told them: "That's an absolute must. The more that you make the audience fall in love with them and want them to be together, it means that the moment that you get to that point, the pay-off has been worth the wait. They would absolutely fall into that category – if we choose to do that further down the line!"

Baby Tate's future

Now that we know where Baby Tate is and that Graham Foster is with him, there has to be a moment where Joe Tate finds out what really happened to his son. Joe was determined to have the baby adopted. Graham and Kim didn't want Joe to do something he may regret, and now they have hidden the baby away, with Graham caring for him. So surely at some point this will all be revealed, leading to Graham returning to the village - but will Baby Tate stay at Home Farm with Kim and Graham, and will Joe bond with his son?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
