Viewers of Celebrity Traitors were left speechless after a BBC Wales star's on-air prank on Friday (October 16). Thousands of Welsh viewers tuned in to BBC One at 8pm to watch the latest episode of the hit competition.
However, they were soon left stunned when the Welsh announcer shared an "unexpected change" to the schedule. He said: "Brand-new Have I Got News For You tonight at 9.30pm, but first on BBC One Wales, in a change to what you might have been expecting, it's The Repair Shop."
Announcer reveals prank
Revealing the prank, the star then said: "Just kidding! I wouldn't do that. I'm not a Traitor, honest," moments before the next episode of Celebrity Traitors began airing.
It didn't take long for viewers to share their shock on social media. "Kind of love it when the announcers get involved," one person wrote, as they shared a clip of the prank on X.
"Obsessed with the @BBCWales guy telling us Repair Shop was coming on next. The way I shouted 'WHAT?!?!' You got me. Well played," another added.
Mixed reactions from viewers
However, not everyone was impressed, as a number of viewers issued complaints. One person wrote: "BBC1 WALES PRETENDING THAT THE TRAITORS HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH THE REPAIR SHOP, I GASPED."
Someone else fumed: "B***** hell, the BBC announcer gave me heart palpitations then. Don't mess around saying it's the b***** 'Repair Shop' instead of the #CelebrityTraitors ffs!!"
Latest from the castle
21 famous faces headed to The Traitors castle earlier this month to play the ultimate game of deception and betrayal, in the hope of winning a cash prize of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice. Claudia Winkleman began the game by choosing her first two Traitors, with Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant entering the turret for the first time.
They then chose James Acaster to join their ranks, but they didn't remain a trio for long. Richard became the first star to be banished at the roundtable, just hours after he accidentally confessed to being a Traitor in front of a group of Faithfuls.
Professor Hannah Fry was then recruited, and instantly sparked suspicion. She became the second Traitor to leave the castle, after being banished on Thursday (October 15).
Instead of murdering again, Maya and James decided to recruit again, with content creator King Kenny entering the turret for the first time. The stars were then left speechless at the start of Friday's episode, after everyone arrived at breakfast.
Joe Lycett found himself in the frame, after he openly asked to be recruited in the castle. Joanne McNally was also talked about, after she made a blunder during the previous roundtable. But who was the next star to be banished?
Celebrity Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
