Emmerdale aired heart-wrenching scenes as Monty Dingle gave his final goodbye after eight years on the ITV soap.
Monty's Journey on the Soap
Monty Dingle has become a beloved part of Emmerdale ever since his first appearance back in 2018. He was welcomed into the Dingle family home after the loss of their Irish Wolfhound, Alfie.
He was introduced as a companion for Zak Dingle, who was played by the late Steve Halliwell. He died in 2023, at the age of 77. His family confirmed he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at St James's Hospital in Leeds and Wheatfield Hospice.
Monty's Illness and Final Scenes
Over recent weeks, poor Monty has been in the spotlight after vet Paddy Kirk announced that he had a metastatic tumour which was found after he was taken in when he was found in the shed that Kyle had set alight.
The Dingles were then presented with the heartbreaking news that Monty would have to be put down as his condition worsens. Cain has tried his best to support Monty, but sadly it's time to say goodbye to the beloved pooch.
On Wednesday (August 5), emotional scenes aired as the family took their time to say goodbye to Monty, before Cain decided it was time to take him to the vets on his own.
It was then that Monty lay on the vets table as Rhona promised to make it as peaceful as possible for him. Monty reached out his paw to hold onto Cain's hand, causing him to hold back tears as he said his final farewell.
Emotional Tribute and Fan Reaction
Holding Monty, he said: "You took your time, didn't you?", as Rhona injected him, Cain added: "Forget what I said. You are a good boy. I know my dad was always grateful for having you. Always."
"When you get up there, you tell him how much we love him, and that we miss him loads. You make sure he takes you for plenty of walks just like old times. We love you, you scruffy old thing."
It was then that Monty had gone, as Cain and Rhona both shed tears. His family then joined him at the vets, with Monty all wrapped up in a blanket.
As the emotional scenes aired, Emmerdale fans took to social media to express their upset. On X (formerly known as Twitter), @eternitydropped penned: "When Monty gave Cain his paw I was BROKEN. Sobbed like a baby. Dogs really are the most precious souls".
@simplymrtv replied: "No seriously I’m just sobbing the whole time I can’t watch anything remotely sad animal related" and @swarlacs4 added: "This broke me today not sure why I watched as we’ve just lost two of our dogs within 4 months of each other and I miss them so much. Dogs are family without a doubt, and so so precious I’m glad they covered it but it was heartbreaking".
