Emmerdale casts Death in Paradise star Chelsea Edge as DS Ramsden

Emmerdale has cast Chelsea Edge, known for her role in Death in Paradise, as DS Ramsden, a new detective who arrives to investigate the death of Dr Caitlin Todd.

New Detective Arrives

DS Ramsden appears in Tuesday's (August 11) episode, launching an investigation after Charity (Emma Atkins) and her granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill) devise a story for the authorities. The detective remains convinced she is not receiving the full picture from Charity and Sarah and is determined to uncover the truth.

Edge is most recognised for her stint in the BBC's Death in Paradise, where she played Sophie Chambers, the partner of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little). Her character arrived as a backpacker before quickly embarking on a relationship with DI Neville, but events took a shocking twist when Sophie set him up for the murder of criminologist David Cartwright (Patrick Kennedy). She featured in the show for seven episodes from 2022 to 2023.

Charity's Recent Turmoil

Charity has endured a turbulent period on the ITV soap. Earlier this year, she fell victim to a sexual assault by Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), who then blackmailed her regarding the real parentage of Leyla Sugden. The menacing doctor left the village for a new role in Sheffield, while Charity remained haunted by the aftermath. This week, Dr Todd met her end accidentally at the hands of Sarah following a confrontation with Charity.

Charity and Sarah enlisted enigmatic newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) to devise a story for the authorities, but DS Ramsden's arrival signals a potential complication.

Edge's Other Roles

Edge's additional television appearances include the Sky comedy Brassic alongside Michelle Keegan, 2020's I Hate Suzie, and the BBC drama Reunion, which aired last year.

Discussing her Death in Paradise character previously, Sophie had revealed: "When you go on holiday you have a little crush and you know it's not going to last forever. But I think she has such a soft spot for him and coming away from it - she's trying to be a realist - coming back, she's like, 'How have I left this incredible island and this guy I really like.' She doesn't want to let it go."

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
